We are students at High Hopes Preschool at Hawthorne Park in Ladner. All of us, as concerned citizens, are discussing Delta's recycling program.

April was a "Guerrilla Green" theme at High Hopes and one of our projects was a letter to the mayor and council asking if Delta could please implement a more efficient recycling program.

We propose a new waste collection that supports single-stream recycling, which means Delta residents will not need to sort items anymore. We would be able to mix all our recyclables together in one large cart with wheels and a handle, provided by the municipality.

The streamlined pro-gram and new recycling cart would be helpful in many ways. It would encourage people to recycle more because it would make the job easy and simple.

The cart would also help the elderly and physically challenged because it is easy to move with wheels and a handle.

To offset the cost of this new program we propose that garbage pick-up changes to twice a month instead of every week.

We also request recycling pick-up at our school. Presently, the teacher takes home all the recycling and it is picked up at her home.
