Slow down to avoid another pedestrian accident

Re: Pedestrian struck in crosswalk, July 30

How many times do we see, read and hear about this happening? So much so that it goes in one ear and out the other.

I just returned from seeing a beautiful 86-year-old lady lying in a trauma unit. She was struck by a car as she crossed the street at a marked pedestrian crossing during a walk she makes on a daily basis.

This 86-year-old is a beautiful, vibrant, strong and much loved woman by her family and friends. She is not just a headline.

The point of writing this letter is to remind drivers to please slow down and take the time when driving through crosswalks. It could be your loved one hit next time. They could become the next headline.

It is a tragic and senseless accident that can be prevented. The second or two that you think you are saving might be the same second that is causing a lifetime of tragedy for another family. Please slow down and take care.
