Re: Getting it right after 25 years, Murphy's Law, May 7

Your editorial is incorrect and biased in concluding that Metro Vancouver Directors "highly likely will amend the Regional Growth Strategy" in support of the Southlands development plan because there were more supporters than opponents at the May 1 public hearing.

While it was true that about 54 per cent of speakers were in support of the Southlands development, 78 per cent of written submissions at that time were opposed. Why was this information not included in your editorial? Many people could not attend the public hearing because they were at work or busy with childcare. That did not stop them from sending in 670 out of 863 written submissions demonstrating a strong opposition of 78 per cent.

The combined submissions show 75 per cent opposed to the Southlands development in spite of support from many vested interests.

Most Delta council members have treated the public with great disrespect, ignoring public input and abruptly ending public hearings. Let's hope members of the Metro Vancouver board are more in touch with public opinion as well as the goals of the Regional Growth Strategy.
