Thank you very much for publishing my letter on Dec. 24. Between the efforts of club members, friends and community members, we have managed to get Delta council's attention.

The proposed rezoning of the Bayside Squash Club will now be subject to a public hearing on Tuesday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m. at Delta Municipal Hall.

If you want Delta to help us preserve this recreational facility, we need you to take the time to come out and show your support. We need people to say something to let council know that they support this important part of our community.

If you did not read my prior letter, the Bayside Squash Club is a truly unique community facility on the southeast corner of the Tsawwassen peninsula, bordered by Boundary Bay on one side and Point Roberts on the other. It houses Delta's only squash courts, as well as a fitness centre, water sports base and facilities for many community programs.

The current owner is proposing that it be bulldozed and rezoned into two residential lots. With all of the letters and over 400 signatures on petitions supporting Bayside that we have collected, it is obvious that many members of the community agree this is the wrong choice for Delta.

With a growing population we need more recreational facilities and public access points to the water, not less.

Please take the time to support this facility at the public hearing. It will only take an hour or so of your time, and will help support recreational facilities in our community at no cost to the taxpayer.

Thank you also to councilors Sylvia Bishop, Robert Campbell, Bruce McDonald and Ian Paton for putting this proposal to a public hearing.
