Still on the lookout for right candidate

I attended a Delta South all-candidates forum put on by the Probus Club in Tsawwassen last week.

It was clear from the outset that NDP candidate Nic Slater was outmatched by the other two candidates. Slater does not have the detailed background of the issues facing South Delta and therefore had to speak in generalities.

Independent Vicki Huntington was very solid and her answers were right on, but unfortunately she is the lone voice of sanity in a place lacking any sanity.

Liberal Bruce McDonald had not considered his positions on various items in detail as his logic was flawed and his answers naive. To be in favour of the ALR and not permit any more agricultural land to be passed over to industry is admirable. But in the next breath to say he is in favour of Terminal 2, which will need even more ALR land, defies logic.

McDonald picked up on Huntington's comment of a new road being proposed to enter and exit the new industrial estate proposed at Boundary Bay Airport.

To think that large trailers are going to enter and exit this site from any road other than the South Fraser Perimeter Road would be totally insane. That's more land out of the ALR.

It was a good discussion, but left me with no clear candidate.
