Thank you to the Tsawwassen First Nation for inviting neighbours to the public information event on Jan. 11 about its proposed commercial /retail development.

I was pleased to attend along with so many neighbours from all parts of Delta and beyond who mingled in animated conversation about the project, talking with each other as well as with TFN legislators, elders, members, staff and development representatives.

The respectful response by such a well-represented group was truly remarkable and a hopeful sign for future good neighbour relations given concerns expressed by some Delta residents about TFN proposed changes.

This event was an opportunity for the communities of Tsawwassen First Nation and Delta to continue to get to know each other so that we can help one another for mutual benefit in the region that we share.

As a resident of Tsawwassen/Delta, I appreciated that Sylvia Bishop, a new Delta councilor, was able to attend along with Ian Tait, chair of Delta Chamber of Commerce board, and so many other community leaders.

Neighbourly relations do not, of course, imply having the same views. In fact, I would argue that good neighbour relations enable divergent but respectful views so that best mutual solutions can be reached.
