The Ladner Bandfest was the best ever!
We would like to thank the Optimist and all of our sponsors for helping this to become the largest gathering of adult musicians in all of Canada. Twenty-one community bands comprising 800 musicians performed during two wonderful days of sunshine at Memorial Park on June 9 and 10. Members of our own Delta Music Makers Concert Band organized the event and additional volunteers from the community provided a total of 70 volunteers covering hundreds of hours through the weekend. The fame of this event is spreading; we got a call from the San Diego Concert Band who wants to register for 2014.
A special thanks goes to the following sponsors who provided publicity, tents, equipment, food, printing, and other in-kind service to the event: the Delta Optimist, TOOBs service club, Delta Parks, Recreation and Culture, Marketwire, Long and McQuade Music, Matterhorn Musical Repairs, Prussin Music Inc., Thrifty Foods, Dominion Macklem Mortgages, North Delta Soccer, Remax, Envision Financial, Bri-Tek Fire Protection, Save-On-Foods, and Archetype Printing. The weather was perfect for the record crowds who brought their lawn chairs to enjoy this excellent music in the park. Next year's event is on June 8 and 9 - mark your calendars!
