Re: Berner appeals to highest court, March 6

Carol Berner is the poster child for the lack of accountability in today's society. When someone makes a dreadful error in judgment and commits a horrible crime (intentional or unintentional), the obvious and honourable thing to do is look directly in the mirror, say, "I am so sorry," and accept the consequences.

Unfortunately, that is a lost art these days. Now the more common approach is to deflect responsibility and try to work the system as long as possible to wriggle out from under the rock of accountability. Sadly, this kind of behaviour is all too often rewarded.

As Berner still walks around free on bail, our judicial system grapples with her numerous appeals and the Middelaer family continues to grieve the loss of their little girl.

How much more emotional abuse will they have to take and how much more taxpayer money will be wasted before justice is done?
