What's the need for shop to go upscale?

I'm puzzled at Nancy Macey's comment as to a cultural change and the whole connotation of getting away from the thrift store.

Most people I have talked to all say the same thing that the thrift store is a charity that raises money for the Delta Hospice Care Centre in Ladner. The items that are donated from merchants and people from our community are of a high quality. The volunteers sort all merchandise and anything that is not saleable is recycled for good money and junk goes in the bin.

So I have to ask: Why the change to a boutique with prices like $75 for a ring and $250 for a purse?

Is it because of egotism or possibly Macey, as executive director, and her select few that are paid require a raise?

The hospice thrift store should be run like the Delta Hospital Auxiliary's Ladner thrift shop where no one gets paid.
