Delta golfer Charlie Derrheim shot an impressive round of 63 to win the Peewee Boys division at the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s Mini Tour Summer Series on Monday.

It was the first tour win for the 11-year-old. He also took home low overall honours.

Playing at the Musqueam Golf Club in Vancouver, Derrheim won the division by four strokes over Nathan Szpakowicz of Vancouver.

“I feel very happy and excited about my first win. I think the best thing about my game today was probably my short game,” said Derrheim.

The next MJT Mini Tour Series runs Monday, July 17 at Burnaby Mountain Golf Club.

The non-profit MJT, presented by Boston Pizza, is Canada’s number one-played junior golf tour as well as the only national junior tour run exclusively by PGA of Canada Professionals and the “Road to College Golf” in Canada. The MJT hosts more than 70 events across Canada, including free junior clinics, the MJT Mini Tour for seven to 12-year-olds, the Collegiate Tour for 19 to 23-year-olds, and multi-day events for competitive players aged 11 to 18 that are also qualifiers for international competitions.

The program offers annual awards, scholarships and frequent incentives to reward a player’s performance and participation throughout the season.
