Delta Stars were crowned champions of the Burnaby Remembrance Day Tournament after winning all five games.

The Delta Stars Atom girls hockey team went undefeated (5-0-0) to capture gold at the Female Remembrance Day Tournament hosted by the Burnaby Wildcats this past weekend.

Out of the gate, South Delta came on strong with a 4-2 win over rival Vancouver. The next round robin games were decisive victories over North Shore (5-1), Chilliwack (5-2) and host Burnaby (9-0).

The championship matchup had South Delta and Vancouver sparring again with lots of exciting back-and-forth action. The Stars would not be denied — winning 2-1.

Leading the way in the offensive zone were centres Alaniya Johal, Bella Gewall and Olivia Vance, along with wingers Katie Willford, Reese Bruckshaw, Janelle Gosnell, and Kylie Kamiya. On defense, Kayli Basson, Danielle Bilodeau, Sage Heiner, Haeley Keen, and Rachael Pugsley kept the other teams out of the Stars end. Goaltenders Ryan Assaly, Emily MacDonad and Emma Macey stood on their heads between the pipes and kept the goals against to just six over the five games.

The coaching staff — led by head coach Jacqueline Hamlin —  is extremely proud of the team effort given by the players to obtain their objective not only with the win but to have fun while doing it.
