B.C.'s Ballard appoints two Weichai executives to board

Ballard Power Systems (TSX, NASDAQ: BLDP) has appointed two executives from Weichai Group subsidiaries and affiliates to its board of directors to replace two outgoing directors who are retiring.

Chen Wenmiao (Michael Chen) and Wang Yingbo (Yingbo Wang) will replace Weichai Power’s Kevin Jiang and Sherman Sun.

Michael Chen is CEO of Weichai Ballard Hy-energy Technologies Co. Ltd. and vice general manager of Weichai Holding Group, a subsidiary of the state-owned, multi-national heavy machinery and automotive manufacturer Shandong Heavy Industry Group in China.

Yingbo Wang is CEO of Weichai New Energy Power Technology Co. Ltd., director of the New Energy Research Institute, and assistant general manager at Weichai Power, which is also a subsidiary of Shandong Heavy Industry Group.

"We deeply appreciate the valued contributions of Kevin and Sherman to Ballard's board of directors over the past five years,” Ballard chairman Jim Roche said in a press release. “We have admired their professionalism and dedication to Ballard's global business, and have benefited from their perspectives on the China heavy-duty engine market.

"Michael and Yingbo bring valuable experience in power engineering and new energy technologies in the China market,” “We welcome their contributions to Ballard's growth strategy and competitive positioning."

Weichai-Ballard Hy-Energy Technologies Co. Ltd. is a joint venture, with Weichai Power owning 51 per cent and Ballard 49 per cent.
