Kids, start the week creatively with Maker Mondays, happening on the second and fourth Monday of each month, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the George Mackie Library in North Delta.

On Monday, Oct. 24, participants will learn how to make paper airplanes such as the dynamic dart, spinning blimp, flying squirrel and many more, then race their planes against other planes to determine the fastest.

On Monday, Nov. 14, discover how to make origami swans, fish, jumping frogs, and star boxes. All supplies provided.

Ever wanted to write your own story? On Monday, Nov. 28, kids can create their very own short story, complete with title page and cover.

As you work through each station, you decide what your characters get up to, where they get up to it, and what happens to them in the end.

Finally, on Monday, Dec. 12, children are invited to explore FVRL’s Playground! Make magnets and buttons, check out the Telescope, then try your hand at puzzle cubes, Keva planks and much more. Suggested ages are eight to 12; children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult. Parents are encouraged to stay and participate with their childen. Registration is not required.

Library staff have been working with parents to find the time and place that works best.

Starting Thursday, Nov. 3, kids with autism or sensory processing challenges can connect via Zoom every Thursday from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Introduce them to the love of books and language. Children and caregivers will enjoy interactive stories, songs, rhymes and more. Children can engage as little or as much as they wish. To manage transitions, visual cues and a countdown will be used. To promote consistency, each month will have the same weekly songs and actions rhymes. This program is suitable for ages two to six.

For more information or to receive a copy of the month’s songs and action rhymes, please contact Mandy at mnilson@fvrl.bc.ca. Registration required.
