The City of Delta has lots of programs and activities at its rec centres and pools on Monday, Feb. 19.

Delta’s parks, recreation and culture has lots of fun programs and activities for families to enjoy on Family Day, Monday, Feb. 19.

Amazing Race

Do you think you are the wittiest and fastest family? Come out and try to beat other local families in a race around your local Recreation Centre! Register your family or household. All ages welcome! The Amazing Race will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at both the South Delta and North Delta rec centres.

Family acting games

Get together with your families and bring out your acting skills. There will be a jam-packed session full of fun acting games for the whole family. All ages welcome at the North Delta Rec Centre from 2 to 3:30 p.m.

Hand and heart collaborative family art

Andy Warhol was a famous visual artist who often created his art with repetition of the same picture - each just a little bit different. We will do the same thing using your families’ hands paint and hearts to create a collaborative masterpiece. Register your family or household. This art project's recommended age three to six years. Program takes place from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at both the South Delta and North Delta recreation centres.

Collaborative family comic strip making

You and your kids will have loads of fun creating your very own comics. We’ll show you how to draw comic strips in seven easy steps. Together you can create imaginary worlds populated by quirky characters that do amazing things. Register your family or household. All ages welcome from 1 to 3:15 p.m. at both the South Delta and North Delta rec centres.

Learn to skate 

Come learn to skate as a family for Family Day! All family members must be registered. All registrants must wear CSA approved multi-impact helmets. This will be held from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at the Ladner Leisure Centre and the North Delta Rec Centre.

Cooking classes

Come out and prepare a meal with your family! While we are cooking, we will spend time discussing meal prep and safety around the kitchen. This will be a fun, hands-on cooking experience. The recipe will be centered on what the kids can help with at home for your family to share and enjoy! This program takes place from 3 to 5:30 p.m. at the North Delta Rec Centre.

Wheelchair sports

Come try wheelchair sports in a fun, supportive environment! It will be a fun event to learn basic skills and drills and play a modified game of wheelchair basketball or spin your wheels at soccer, fun games or even pickleball! People with and without disabilities are welcome to attend, so bring your friends and come out for a day of fun. All ages and abilities welcome. Equipment will be provided. This program runs from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the North Delta Rec Centre.

Water Smart

The Lifesaving Society’s Family Swim to Survive is designed to create a comfortable learning environment for families, some of whom might be newcomers to Canada or may have no experience with survival swimming and water safety. Everyone in Canada should learn to swim – learn as a family! This program takes place at the Sungod Rec Centre in North Delta with classes in half-hour intervals from 10 a.m. to noon, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Ladner Leisure Centre and 10 a.m. to noon at the Winskill Aquatic & Fitness Centre in Tsawwassen.

Badminton

Join in for a chance to learn the sport of badminton. Start with some skill introduction and drill work and then finish off with some games. This program runs from 3:30 to 6:15 p.m. at the South Delta Rec Centre.

Stick & Puck

Bring your family out for to practice your skills, then play a game of shinny! Equipment required is CSA multi-impact helmet with half (ages 19-plus only) or full cage. Wooden stick permitted and plastic/foam puck only. Register every family member separately. This program takes place from 11:15 a.m. to noon at the Sungod Rec Centre and 2:15 to 3:15 at the South Delta Rec Centre.

Multi-sport fun

Come and play a variety of sports under the guidance and direction of parks and rec staff. Learn new skills as a mini dribbler or basketball junior all-star participant. We may even test out Pickleball and badminton. The program takes place from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the South Delta Rec Centre.
