The first Saturday farmers market of the season at Southlands Tsawwassen was a huge hit.

The weekly farmers markets will take place every Saturday until Dec. 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The open-air market aims to feature local produce and celebrate the farm to table lifestyle, and is hosted by Southlands Grange Centre for Farming and Food.

“The Southlands Grange is a centre for agricultural education that brings together community and farmers to reimagine the food system as a place of meaningful connection, ecology and health in a working landscape connected to the built environment and nature,” said Sean Hodgins, President of Century Group, the founder of Southlands agrihood.

The centre supports the business of agriculture by connecting students and the public to the land through tours, workshops and a vibrant Market Square. Partnered with the Young Agrarians, training and mentoring for the next generation of farmers is offered through a Young Farmer Training Program and an intensive on-farm apprenticeship hosted by Salt & Harrow Farm.

Visitors can expect to discover fresh local produce from local farmers Salt & Harrow, and artisan goods, including jewelry, craft beer and baked goods. Among the vendors are: Chaerea Jewellery, Desirée Blooms, Bannock Queen, Four Winds brewing and more. Cash and/or credit are accepted, depending on the vendor. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own shopping bag.

Entertainment and pop-up children's art classes delivered by Nook Play Studio will add to the character and enjoyment of the markets. These classes will be 40 minutes long for families to enjoy while visiting the market.

Leashed dogs are welcome in the Market Square, there will be no dogs allowed in the market area.

In addition to our farmer’s market, there are plenty of other activities to enjoy while visiting Southlands. Walk around Market Square and see what our residents are growing in our allotment gardens on display, visit the restored Red Barn and enjoy coffee and a treat at Prado Cafe. For those who would like to explore the surrounding area, Pedego Electric Bikes offers e-bike rentals and tours around Boundary Bay.
