Hunting group helps clean-up Boundary Bay

Most of what the volunteers found was plastic, of all types, bottles, containers, bags, lawn furniture, and bits and pieces that came off boats.

After enjoying the outdoors around Boundary Bay near 64th Street last fall, duck hunters and volunteers took to tidying up the area on Feb. 10.

Thanks to the efforts of more than 20 volunteers, they picked up more than a ton of trash, litter and old shotgun shells.

Most of what the volunteers found was plastic, of all types, bottles, containers, bags, lawn furniture, and bits and pieces that came off boats.

The campaign happened in partnership with Nature Trust BC and BC Backcountry Hunters and Anglers.

Aidan Gunter, said that Ladner and Delta have a rich hunting history particularly for waterfowl. Duck hunting season runs from September to March in specific areas.

Previous cleanups have taken place in the area, though none were done last year. The group plans on doing another cleanup next year.
