For the past year, residents of City Homes in Tsawwassen have been saving their recyclables in order to raise money towards the Delta Special Olympics soccer program. To date, nearly $500 has been raised for new nets and soccer balls.

"Every time I'd go down to the garbage and recycling room, I'd see empty cans and bottles in the bins, and that inspired the launch of the City Homes recycling program," said Dan Patching, local mortgage broker and resident of City Homes.

Since then, two separate recycling bins specific for bottles and cans were created, making it easy for residents to donate.

The program earns close to $20 per week.

City Homes wants to challenge other local complexes to do the same.
