There are lots of programs going on during Spring Break at all three libraries in Delta.

Science World on the Road is coming to the three Delta Libraries.

Science World’s curious facilitators will help kids of all ages better understand weather and climate with fun demonstrations and offer great ideas for how we can all positively impact our planet. Don’t miss Science World on Monday, March 18, from 1 to 1:45 p.m. at the George Mackie Library, Thursday, March 28, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at the Ladner Pioneer Library, and Thursday, March 28, from 2 to 2:45 p.m. at the Tsawwassen Library.

Unplugged (formerly Maker Mondays)

Monday, March 18, 25 (except April 1), 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Drop in and let your imagination run full STEAM ahead with Maker Mondays! From art to tech projects and everything in between, we'll design and make something new each session. Ages six to 11.

Lego Club

Tuesdays, March 19, 26, 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Love Lego? We provide the Lego you bring your imagination. Come play, create, and experiment. Lego Club is a fun afternoon program for kids. Children under five must be accompanied by a parent.

All Things Green & Springy Craft Program

Wednesday, March 20, 2 to 3:30 p.m.

Join us to make some special green spring-themed papercrafts. Activities vary and are suitable for ages five to 12. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult. Parents are encouraged to stay and participate with their child(ren).

Tweens: Creative Writing with ChatGPT!

Monday, March 21, 3 to 3:45 p.m.

Using ChatGPT, explore your imagination and develop your creative writing skills. Join us for creative writing activities, story games, and writing challenges. Ages 10 to 12. Registration required.

Collaging with Green Screen

Saturday, March 23, 2 to 4 p.m.

Create a collage with you as the main character! Draw, paint, and glue images onto poster board and then we'll upload it to the green screen app to use as your personal backdrop. Take photos of yourself on a green screen background to insert into your art project. Ages eight to 11. All supplies will be provided.

Spring Break Dance Party

Wednesday, March 27, 2 to 3 p.m.

Time to get in active this Spring. Join us for a fun-filled hour of various dances, such as freeze, as well as activities, and games, such as balloon toss, and Simon Says. A snack will be provided.

Structures: How high can you go? A STEAM program

Thursday, March 28, 1 to 2 p.m.

Using skill, strategy, and luck, how high can you build a structure using only spaghetti and marshmallows? Or newspaper and masking tape? Come join us for this fun STEAM program.

Black Out Poetry

Wednesday, March 20, 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Drop in for an artistic time creating poetry. Explore black out poetry then generate different types of poetry from your original black out poem using ChatGPT. We’ll also explore X (formerly Twitter) poetry, using book titles, song titles, etc. Ages 14 to 18.

Teen Speed Debating

Wednesday, March 27 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Would you like to learn how to argue and win? Join us for an introduction to debating, including pointers on public speaking, with fun topics provided. Learn the principles of sound arguments, which is a skill that can come in handy in many different situations!

Thursday, March 28, 1 to 2 p.m.

Create a scene from a book, movie, or fandom using sugary Peeps!

You provide a shoe box, and we will provide the Peeps. Completed Peep-O-Ramas will be placed on exhibit at the library for everyone to enjoy and vote for their favourite from Friday, March 22 to Monday, April 1.

Family Game Time

Friday, March 22, 2 to 3:30 p.m.

Join us for a fun afternoon playing a variety of tabletop games at the library! Discover a new game or enjoy an old favorite. We will provide a variety of games to choose from.

Weave a Wall Hanging

Wednesday, March 27, 1 to 1:45 p.m.

Learn how to make a cardboard loom and fashion a wall hanging with yarn and ribbons using beginner weaving techniques. Looking for more weaving projects to try after this program? Explore our library database Creativebug for further inspiration.

Tiny Art Show

Monday, April 1 to Monday, April 29 – Drop by during library operating hours to pick up an 8.5" X 5.5" piece of cardstock

Tuesday, April 30 – Submission Day! Completed artworks will be showcased in May; displayed here at the library.

Friday, May 31, 3 to 4 p.m. Join us for a show wrap up to celebrate the artwork, meet fellow makers, and to pick up your artwork. Snacks/refreshments will be provided.

Display your talents at our tiny art show! The theme is Out of This World. Let your imagination take that where it will! All ages welcome. Size requirements: 2D (8.5" X 5.5" or smaller) or 3D (8.5" X 5.5" X 5.5" or smaller) artwork accepted.

Young Writers

Mondays March 18 and 25, 11 a.m. to noon

Calling all young writers! Come explore your imagination and develop your creative writing skills. Join us for creative writing activities, story games, and writing challenges. A program for children ages nine to 12. Registration required.

Very Hungry Caterpillar Day

Wednesday, March 20, 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Celebrate Very Hungry Caterpillar Day with us at the library! Join us for a story, activities, and crafts based on Eric Carle’s classic picture book The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Suitable for children ages two to six and their caregivers. NOTE: When registering, please register child attendees, not accompanying caregiver(s). Registration required.

Family Bingo

Thursday, March 21, 1 to 1:45 p.m.

Join us for Family Bingo at the library! We'll play rounds of Bingo with words and pictures. Prizes for winners of each round. For children ages four to 10 and their caregivers.

STEAM Activities (Theme - Engineering: Paper Strength 3 (Bridges)

Join us for an afternoon of activities sharing STEAM knowledge! Individuals are invited to participate in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math challenges. Ages 10 to 13. Registration required.

Lego Challenge!

Friday, March 22, 11 a.m. to noon

Exercise your creative skills with Lego as we explore compound word building challenges! What would a Lego seahorse or butterfly look like? Combine both elements of the compound word to make your Lego creation. Completed projects will be placed on exhibit at the library for everyone to enjoy from March 22 to April 1.

How Does Your Garden Grow? [Canadian Agriculture Literacy Month]

Monday, March 25, 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Celebrate Canadian Agriculture Literacy Month with us at the library! Join us for a special farm themed storytime and seed planting activity. Suitable for ages two to six. Registration required.

Preschool Dance Party!

Tuesday, March 26, 1 to 2 p.m.

Join us for a dance party at the library! We will enjoy a story, a variety of dance activities, and create shaker instruments to use during our dance hour. Suitable for children ages two to six and their caregivers.

Teen Post-it Wall Poetry

March 15 to 31: submissions

April 1 – 30: Display during Poetry Month

Deliver your prose on a 3" x 3" green post-it responding to the theme of "My Future." Don't have a green 3"x3" post-it? Drop in at the library to pick up a 3" x 3" green post-it. Submit your poem for an entry form for our Post-it Poetry Draw prize. Note: Poetry will be on display and should be suitable for a family environment. Ages 13 to 19.

Join us for an afternoon of family fun playing new and old board games, card games and more! Our games include Chess, Mahjong, Ticket to Ride, Codenames, Sorry, in addition to puzzles, and a few unexpected treasures.

Imagination Station

Sunday, March 24, 2 to 3 p.m.

We will provide LEGO, KEVA planks, and Magformers. All you need to bring is your imagination. Test your engineering skills while you build amazing structures. Fun for all ages.

Kids! Visit the Tsawwassen Library to enjoy a Scavenger Hunt and the Colouring Corner. There are also Take N’ Makes for adults and kids too (while quantities last).

Gardening Galore

Wednesday March 27, 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Join us for some Spring Break fun during Canadian Agriculture Literacy Month with a hands-on gardening activity. Plant some herbs in a pot to take home with you and watch grow. You'll get to explore all the wonders that plants have to offer. For ages two to nine.

Ukulele Jam

Thursday, March 21, 6 to 7:30 p.m.

All uked up and no place to jam? Whether you are a ukulele newbie or a seasoned strummer, please join us on the third Thursday of the month for a fun and relaxed evening with fellow uke enthusiasts.  We play a wide range of music; from traditional ballads and standards of the Roaring 20s to popular hits from the 1950s to today.
