In celebration of National Poetry Month, the Richmond Public Library (RPL) is hosting its annual poetry contest for teens.

Until April 30, teens between the ages 12 and 18 can submit their original work for a chance to win a Richmond Centre gift card.

Any form of poetry is accepted including written, spoken word, music lyrics and rap that hasn't been previously published.

Written entries should be no longer than one page, single-spaced, and verbal entries must be less than two minutes. There will be two age categories, one for ages 12 to 15 and a second for ages 16 to 18.

All poems and creative work will be judged on creativity, clarity, originality and the message of the piece.

Two prizes will be given in each category, including a first-place prize of $35 and a second-place prize of $20.

To enter, interested teens need to submit their entries via email to [email protected] along with their name, age and grade by April 30.
