The risk of flooding in Boundary Bay is considered highest this month.

It's time to start keeping fingers crossed as a "King Tide" is forecast to begin Tuesday and last about four days. As expected, the high tides, which can approach five metres in height, come every winter. Areas of Boundary Bay and Beach Grove are prone to localized flooding. The real problem occurs when those tides combine with high winds to create a perfect storm. It's an occurance that resulted in wide-spread flooding in 2006. Annual flood protection measures have already been undertaken and the next phase of Delta's flood plan kicks in when southeasterly winds in the range of 80 km/h combine with a high tide. In December 2014, Delta declared a state of emergency when a section of seawall along Boundary Bay collapsed.
