A controversial high-rise development application is on hold.

According to Delta’s planning department, the application by Arzone Real Estate Investments Ltd. and Hari Homes Incorporated is on hold until 2019 at the request of the applicant.

The application is for a mixed-used development that includes a 35-storey residential building at 120 Street and 75A Avenue.

The high-rise would have 294 units, commercial and a daycare space, as well as several townhouse units at the ground level of the development.

The city’s advisory design panel a few weeks ago discussed the application once again, including several changes by the applicant, finding there were “many good changes” and that “the applicant did a great job.”

However, the application continues to get a lot of negative feedback from area homeowners with letters of opposition to municipal hall.

Staff will continue to track all the public comments, but the application won’t be considered until after this fall’s municipal election.

Meanwhile, the city has a new application to build a 31-storey building in the 9500 block of Scott Road. The application by Satish Sharma would have 220 residential units with 1,356 square feet of commercial floor area.

Delta already has its first skyscraper with the new Delta-Rise residential tower. That 37-storey tower at 80 Avenue and Scott Road consists of more than 300 units on top and four floors of office and retail space.
