Project-assistance funding for local arts festivals is still available from the B.C. Arts Council but the deadline to apply is fast approaching, says Delta South MLA Vicki Huntington.

"B.C. Arts Council funding can be a welcome boost to local Delta artists planning an event or show," says Huntington. "This is the last chance for any event organizers to apply for provincial funding, and I am encouraging our local artists to apply."

The funding announced by the B.C. Arts Council is designed to assist with fees paid to professional artists and technicians employed through the event. Priority is given to festivals that focus on B.C. and Canadian artists.

"The province has a major role to play in supporting and investing in our arts and culture sector," says Huntington. "This

funding encourages the creation of local arts festivals which can support Delta's talented and outstanding artists."

As B.C.'s lead agency for arts funding and development, the B.C. Arts Council enlists the expertise of the province's artistic community to evaluate grant applications independent of government. The application deadline is Jan. 30. For more information, visit: www.bcartscouncil.ca.
