Delta council has waved public hearings for some re-zoning applications until the COVID-19 crisis has been contained.

At the April 6, special council meeting, Delta council voted to extend third reading for in process zoning amendment applications and waive public hearings for qualifying rezoning applications.

Delta typically requires that rezoning application requirements be completed within one year of third reading. However, to reduce pressure on the development industry in the coming months and to provide financial relief to applicants, council has extended third reading of all applications involving a zoning amendment bylaw to Jan. 15, 2021 and has waived the associated third reading extension request fees.

In accordance with recent guidance for local governments regarding holding public meetings during the COVID-19 pandemic, council will consider waiving public hearings for rezoning applications which are consistent with the Official Community Plan, routine in nature, and where Delta has not received a substantial volume of correspondence in opposition.

In the event that a public hearing is waived, residents and property owners will be invited to provide written submissions for council consideration at time of third reading.

Council will reconsider the approach to meeting public hearing requirements when further guidance is available from the Province and/or the physical distancing requirements are suspended.
