Delta council will start holding its meeting a little earlier.

Council last week agreed to have staff prepare a bylaw amendment to the council procedure bylaw to change the start time of meetings from 4 p.m. on Mondays to 5 p.m.

Council is to adjourn no later than 8 p.m., unless council votes to resolve to proceed beyond that time.

The change won’t happen right away as council is required to consider the bylaw for first and second reading at their April 8 meeting.

A public notification period is to follow before final approval of the bylaw will be considered at an April 22 council meeting.

Council agreed the later start time would give staff a little more flexibility and the public more time to get home from work to watch a meeting at city hall or online.

During the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns, council amended its procedure bylaw to change meeting start times from 7 p.m. to 4 p.m. as well as hold meetings through electronic means.
