Let’s go back to the April 1964 pages of the Delta Optimist to check out South Delta business Ladner Cold Storage.

Operated by partners Jim Kingsley and Jim Taylor, the pair said they processed about 40,000 pounds of domestic meat and wild game in the previous fall.

During the hunting and meat buying months, the two men worked on a seven-day schedule to get meat cut and packed while at the height of freshness.

They said they also supplied meat to several hospitals.

Opened in 1961, the store sold staples as well as meats and hauled livestock.

They had 500 lockers available to the public in several sizes, all rented by the month.

They also had annual beef sales.

The business announced they were closing just a few years later, forcing customers to scramble to get their meat.
