Let’s head back to the November 1967 pages on the Optimist to check out a BC Tel celebration.

An historic telephone booth marking the 800,000th telephone BC Tel had installed in the province became part of Victoria’s tourist scenery.

In a special unveiling ceremony a few weeks prior, adjacent to the Empress Hotel, civic and government dignitaries joined BC Tel personnel for the occasion, which emphasized the growth and progress of British Columbia.

In the late 1990s, BC Tel merged with Telus to become the second largest telecommunications company in Canada.
