Let’s head back to June 1976 when Canada Week at Tsawwassen Junior Secondary rewarded not only the students, but Deltassist too.

Pictured is Deltassist office manager Elaine Scott watching as students decide how to load several large containers of canned goods into her car. The items were collected from a school 50’s Sock Hop fundraiser.

Fast forward to 2023 and a new food bank is now open in North Delta, joining another that’s already in Ladner. Other food providers are also assisting those in need as food insecurity has become a much-talked about issue.

Also, this year in the City of Delta, the Delta Poverty Reduction Action Table is working to create food preference lists that reflect the cultural and dietary needs of Delta’s communities.

The goal is to develop a resource that lists specific food needs of vulnerable, diverse residents being served in Delta. The list will be shared with community partners serving resident groups and improve food security in Delta.
