A fire Wednesday morning has left a Tsawwassen home in the 5200-block of First Avenue with extensive damage. A Go Fund Me page has been launched for the family.

A Go Fund Me page has been launched for a Tsawwassen family that saw extensive fire damage to their 5200-block First Avenue home on Wednesday morning.

As of Thursday afternoon, the fundraiser, which was created by a friend of the family, has generated more $8,600 with an initial goal of $25,000. Donations can be made here.

In addition to the Go Fund Me page, several area residents have stepped up to raise awareness about the families’ loss in posts on the Tsawwassen Loop (NEW) Facebook group. The outpouring of support from the community has been amazing with residents offering donations of clothing, furniture and personal items to help the family get back on their feet.

The family of three and their dogs got out of the house safely before it was completely engulfed in flames. It’s believed most of their personal belongs were destroyed. The family reportedly just moved to the area from Vancouver Island.

The Delta fire department is still investigating the cause of the fire.

“There was some pretty extensive damage to the house itself,” said Delta deputy fire Chief Guy McKintuck. “We had five apparatus show up. There was thick smoke and flames coming from the structure upon arrival. There was no one in the structure at the time.

“It was a defensive fire attack where they weren’t sending one into the building due to the involvement of the fire.”
