Delta throwback: Santa's headquarters

Ladner businesses were getting ready for Santa

The building at the heart of Ladner Village, now occupied by such stores as the Delta Hospital Auxiliary’s thrift shop, is still there today.

Let’s go back to the mid-December 1964 pages of the Optimist to check out some of the Christmas celebration preparations underway in Ladner Village.

Ladner businessmen had some fun setting up Santa’s headquarters in the Ladner Shopping Plaza.

Pictured are George North, Ed Magee and R.H. Oliver talking things over at street level. The agile Wally Nash poses as Santa and Alex Burns hands him the reins.

Santa would be in-person at the shopping plaza for several days.
