Jamie Malanfant and Tyler Nett each scored twice while goaltender Will Schwan turned aside 33 shots as the Delta Islanders defeated the Burnaby Lakers 7-2 on Sunday to salvage a split of their season-opening games in the B.C. Junior "A" Lacrosse League.

Coming off a 10-4 loss one night earlier to the Victoria Shamrocks, the Islanders opened up a 3-1 lead after 20 minutes and cruised to the win in Burnaby.

Malanfant added a pair of assists to cap a four point night, while Eli McLauglin, Mike Henry and Nick Kozuback also scored. Schwan was at his best over the final 40 minutes, stopping 29 of 30 shots.

In the provincial capital, the Shamrocks jumped out to a 4-1 first period lead and the Islanders never could recover. Nett, an intermediate standout in Richmond last season who was acquired in a pre-season trade with Burnaby, scored twice. Mike Donaldson and Henry had the others. Schwan made 30 saves.

The Islanders play their third consecutive road game tonight against defending league champion Coquitlam Adanacs, then host the Langley Thunder in their home opener on Saturday at 7: 30 p.m.
