The City of Delta has issued a request for proposals for the design and construction inspection services for sidewalks improvements to infill missing sidewalks in a neighbourhood bounded by 88 Avenue, 90 Avenue, 112A Street and 115 Street

To be installed next to existing curbs and tie into the existing sidewalks, the improvements for the North Delta neighbourhood will include new 1.5-metre-wide concrete sidewalks as well as new ornamental LED streetlights.

Construction is anticipated to take place in 2025.

Meanwhile, the city also recently issued a request for bids for the construction of the 110 Street and 80 Avenue Neighbourhood Sidewalk Construction Project.

That work will also include a new 1.5-metre sidewalk and LED street lighting along 79A Avenue, 110 Street, 110A Street as well as 78 Avenue. New landscaping trees will be supplied and installed by the city.

The city intends to complete the project in June.

The city also recently issued a request for bids for the design and construction inspection services for crosswalk improvements at 46A Street and Kelly Drive, Central Avenue at Hawthorne Elementary and 4 Avenue and 52A Street in South Delta.

The city is also planning the Barrymore, Garfield, Garrett and Monroe Drive Roadway and Utility Improvements Project. That North Delta project will include roadway widening, new sidewalks with new rollover curb and gutter, a new watermain along Monroe Drive, LED street lighting improvements, new boulevard trees, traffic calming measures, drainage improvements including ditch infill as necessary, as well as roadway re-paving within the project limits.

That project’s construction is scheduled for this summer with completion by October 2024.

Many older neighbourhoods in Delta were developed without sidewalks, curbs and gutters. Sidewalks have typically been delivered through new developments and capital projects within the city’s Neighbourhood Road Improvements Program.

The city notes that with increased requests for infilling of missing sidewalks, the Neighbourhood Livability and Safety Improvements Plan has been developed since 2021 to improve accessibility and enhance pedestrian connections within the community.
