North Delta Crime Beat: More fraud cases reported

The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest.

Feb. 12, 7800 Block of 118th Street: Complainant reported the theft of two electric bikes from their unlocked garage. The suspect cut the chain link fence to gain access to the residence. The bikes are described as black, Rosso Motors brand Cobra, 1,000W electric bikes valued at $950 each. Police conducted an area canvass for surveillance video with negative results.

Feb. 13, Public Safety Building 11375 84th Avenue: Complainant reported they were the victim of fraud. They contacted what they thought was their anti-virus company and gave the suspects access to their two computers and credit card information. The suspects took control of the computers and locked the complainant out. The complainant cancelled their credit card and shut down both computers. Police recommended the complainant take the computers to a dealer for repair and to contact Equifax and TransUnion.

Feb. 14, 1200 Block of Cliveden Avenue: A business reported a break and enter sometime overnight. The suspects gained access to the business by breaking through the drywall of a neighbouring business. Various items stolen including a laptop. Identification services attended the scene and processed fingerprints. Video surveillance was available but did not capture the incident. 

Feb. 14, 11800 Block of 88th Avenue: An apartment manager reported a break and enter, sometime overnight, to their front lobby. The front lobby door had minor damage and mailboxes had been opened. No damage to the mailboxes. The manager will review surveillance video and forward any relevant footage to police.

Feb. 15, 7500 Block of 116th Street: Police conducting proactive patrols in the area stopped a vehicle, which was observed swerving on the road. Police determined that the driver had consumed alcohol and requested breath samples. The driver provided two samples which both read fail. As a result, the driver was given a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and a 30-day vehicle impoundment. The vehicle was towed from the scene and the driver left the area on foot.

Feb. 18, 11500 Block of 72A Avenue: Complainant reported a break and enter of their residence, sometime over the past two days. Police attended and found the front window had been pried open. Two items left at the scene were seized for possible DNA evidence.  Police requested surveillance video from neighbours.
