North Delta Crime Beat: More thefts of catalytic converters reported

The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. *Aug. 23, 1000 Block of Cliveden Avenue: A business reported a theft of two catalytic converters from vehicles in the parking lot. Complainant not sure when the theft occurred and reported the incident for police records.

*Aug. 23, 10900 Block of Santa Monica Drive: A complainant reported a theft of a catalytic converter from their CRV parked in front of their residence.

*Aug. 24, 11800 Block of 81A Avenue: A complainant reported that they had provided their credit card and banking information to an unknown suspect via phone after being advised their accounts were hacked. Subsequently the complainant found $1,000 had been charged to their credit card through the Western Union Bank located in India. The complainant cancelled bank cards and disputed the charges with the bank.

*Aug. 24, 1600 Block of Derwent Way: A business reported a theft, sometime overnight, of a catalytic converter from their vehicle parked in front of the business in an open access lot. Value of converter is $1,500. No damage to the vehicle. No witnesses or suspects.

*Aug. 24, Police Station 11375 84th Avenue: A complainant reported they had provided their password to a suspect who claimed to be a Microsoft rep. The complainant realized they were a victim of fraud when they found $310 had been taken from their bank account.  Bank informed of the fraud and as a result bank account changed. Police advised complainant to change all account and computer passwords.

*Aug. 26, 11900 Block of 88th Avenue: Police stopped a suspect, not wearing a helmet, who was riding a new green bike and pushing an older bike. The suspect admitted to stealing the newer bicycle from the bike rack by cutting the lock. The suspect was arrested and chartered for theft and then released on a promise to appear in court at a future date. The bike was returned to the owner.

*Aug. 26, 8000 Block of 120th Street: A business reported they had observed a male collect several items, including blankets, pillows, and sheets, before leaving the store without payment. The complainant confronted the suspect and all items were recovered before the suspect fled the scene. Police attended the area and conducted area patrols, which proved negative. Images of the suspect obtained from video surveillance will be disseminated for possible identification.

*Aug. 27, 7600 Block of 119A Street: A building manager reported a break and enter to the mail room within the apartment building lobby. A suspect entered the building through the front door, which requires a fob, and then pried the mailroom door open with a tool.   Complainant unsure if any mail taken. Police advised video surveillance to be provided.  Anti-break in measures discussed with the complainant.
