North Delta crime beat: Resident scammed in son needs help spoof

The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. *May 1, Public Safety Building 11375 84th Avenue: Complainant reported they had received a phone call from someone who said their son required money as soon as possible. The complainant complied by sending $987 via e-transfer. The complainant realized they had been the victim of fraud when two weeks later they asked their son for the money and the son indicated they did not know what they were talking about. Police queried the phone number with negative results. A file number was provided to the complainant. 

*May 2, 8900 Block of Watson Drive: Complainant reported they left their vehicle unlocked on the street in front of their residence and sometime overnight it was rummaged through. Items stolen included a work pass, work boots, clothing, and a water bottle. No surveillance video in the area. 

*May 5, Public Safety Building 11375 84th Avenue: Complainant reported they had been matched with a female on the “Wink App” and began video chatting through Google Chat.  An explicit video was then sent to the female. Subsequently the complainant received a demand to pay $500 or else the video would be sent to all the complainant’s contacts. No money was sent, and the complainant’s Google Chat blocked. Police informed the complainant to create new social media accounts and block all further attempted communication from the suspect. 

*May 7, 10300 Block of Skagit Drive: Complainant reported that sometime overnight the catalytic converter had been stolen from their vehicle. Police conducted a video canvas in the area with negative results. File concluded with no further avenues for investigation.

*May 7, 10500 Block of Harrogate Drive: Complainant reported that sometime over the past couple of days the catalytic converter was stolen from their vehicle parked in the driveway. Police attended and found no other damage to the vehicle. A canvass of the neighbourhood by police for video proved negative. File number was provided to complainant for insurance purposes.
