The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. The following are some of the calls Delta police responded to in the previous week:
Oct. 6, 12:25 p.m., 10900 block of 72nd Avenue: Police were travelling west in the second lane in an unmarked police vehicle, when police observed the vehicle behind them accelerate and quickly gain speed. The vehicle passed the marked 60 km/h speed sign, with the front radar of the police car locking the speed in at 160 km/h. The vehicle was impounded for seven days and the driver was served with a ticket for excessive speed.
Oct. 7, 11:52 p.m., 7200 block 120 Street: Police were requested to assist another police agency with a traffic stop. Upon arrival, one male was in custody, and a request was made for a detection dog. Police Service Dog (PSD) Remi who is trained on drugs and firearms was deployed on the vehicle. After searching both outside and inside the vehicle, PSD Remi “indicated” in the center console where DPD officers located a large quantity of cash.
Oct. 11, 2 p.m., Highway 10 and 120th Street: Complainant reported observing a vehicle swerving along Highway 17A & LTR. A traffic stop was initiated at Highway 10 and 120th Street. Two meth pipes observed in plain view in the center console. Standard Field Sobriety Test (SFST) demand read. The driver performed poorly on SFST. The vehicle was impounded.
Oct. 11, 6 p.m., 11500 block 87A Avenue: Complainant reported that his vehicle had been taken. The complainant advised he had attended a party on Oct. 9, and left his keys while he was drinking. He last saw his vehicle at 8 a.m. on Oct. 10. The complainant advised when he returned on Oct. 10 at 6 p.m., the vehicle and keys were missing.
Oct. 12, 7900 block 120 Street: While conducting proactive patrols police observed a vehicle parked in a parking lot of a local restaurant. A query of the license plate revealed that the driver was prohibited from driving due to a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition (IRP) from August. Shortly after, the vehicle was seen leaving the parking lot, heading southbound on 120 Street. Officers followed the vehicle and observed indications of impairment. A vehicle stop was conducted on 7500 block of 120 Street. The driver was identified, and police noted an odor of liquor emanating from the mouth of the driver. Two Alcohol Screening Device tests resulted in FAIL. 90-day IRP issued and the vehicle was impounded.
Oct. 12, 5:56 p.m., 7400 block Barrymore Drive: Complainant reported that between Oct. 9 and Oct. 12, his vehicle was broken into and two pairs of sunglasses and $4 in change were stolen. Delta Police spoke with the complainant, who advised that the vehicle was parked in front of his residence. There was no damage to his vehicle and there was an unknown point of entry.
