One man is in police custody following a lengthy police incident in North Delta.

In a Tuesday night media release, Delta Police confirmed that they are investigating a domestic dispute that resulted in a male barricading himself in a residence in the 11500 Block of 81A Avenue.

Charges of assault and uttering threats are being recommended to Crown Counsel.

Hold and secure

The Delta School Board confirmed with the Optimist that staff at nearby McCloskey Elementary around 11:55 a.m. implemented a hold and secure procedure Tuesday.

“This was done out of an abundance of caution as police were in the process of dealing with a disturbance that was happening in close proximity to the school,” said school district communications manager Cathryn Tucker. “The incident was unrelated to the school and at no time were staff or students in the school at risk. Under the direction and support of the Delta Police, parents were invited to come to the school prior to dismissal to pick up their children.  A controlled release took place between approximately 2 and 3:30 p.m. The Hold and Secure was lifted at approximately 3.10 p.m.”
