Perez will officially be crowned Sunday following the parade.

The 121st edition of Ladner Pioneer May Days fair gets started Friday afternoon and kicks into high gear Saturday and Sunday at Memorial Park.

The forecast is calling for sunny weather and warm temperatures throughout the weekend.

“I’m holding my breath,” laughs May Days event chair Jennifer Scott, noting the fair hasn’t had the greatest luck weather-wise in recent years.

The fair starts Friday with midway rides and a fastball tournament. The Memorial Park fairgrounds will be busy Saturday with pony rides, a craft fair, stage entertainment, beer garden and tasty fare from food trucks.

Sunday’s highlights include a pancake breakfast, a parade (with a slightly different route due to construction), the May Pole Dance and crowning of the May Queen, and a performance from country artist Nicole Sumerlyn.
