Police get a variety of explanations for fight

The following are some of the calls the Delta police responded to in the previous week:

Tsawwassen

May 18, 1 a.m., 5500-block of 15B Street: Police responded to a report of a fight between seven people. Several males were found in the area and provided many different versions of events. Apparently one of the participants was given $20 to purchase alcohol but did not follow through. No indication of a physical fight or any injuries. All parties sent on their way except one male who was arrested on an outstanding warrant.

Ladner

May 18, 7:30 a.m., 3000-block of Deltaport Way: Police stopped a vehicle that was observed driving erratically. A strong smell of marijuana was immediately noticed coming from the breath of the driver, who admitted to smoking a joint while driving to work. The driver issued a 24-hour roadside suspension and several violation tickets as a result of his driving behaviour. The vehicle was impounded and the driver was picked up by a friend.

May 19, 3:46 p.m., Ladner Trunk Road and Highway 17A: Complainant reported a piece of wood was thrown from the overpass and hit her vehicle, causing damage to the right front fender, mirror and front door. Police attended but neither the wood or broken pieces of mirror were located on the roadway. The complainant had observed several youth near the overpass but a patrol of the area by police proved negative.

May 22, 2:58 a.m., 4800-block of Delta Street: A men's single folding black wallet was found in the area. The wallet contains several banking and membership cards. The owner can claim on identification at police headquarters, 4455 Clarence Taylor Way, Ladner.

May 22, 2 p.m.: An unknown male entered the restaurant through the open rear door. He then entered the employee area, stealing a wallet from pants hanging on the wall before fleeing the scene. All cards in the wallet cancelled and a still photo from the video surveillance distributed for identification.

May 23, 8:33 p.m., Highway 17 and Ladner Trunk Road: Police stopped a vehicle with inactive insurance. The driver was also unable to produce a valid driver's licence and acknowledged that he had neither insurance nor driver's licence. The driver was issued tickets for various infractions and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.

May 23, 10:26 p.m., 4600-block of 51st Street: Complainant reported a large group of youth hanging around the park at the secondary school. Police attended and found several youth remaining from the May Days celebration. The youth scattered on police arrival.

May 25, 2:20 a.m., 4700-block of 48B Street: Complainant reported a vanity and lawnmower stolen from his residence. Both items stored in open areas easily accessible to the thief. A silver vehicle with a lawnmower in the back was observed by witnesses leaving the area but no licence plate was obtained. Area patrol by police proved negative.
