For 50 years, Options Community Services has worked as a registered charity to provide essential social services in Surrey, Delta, White Rock/South Surrey and Langley.

For its 50th Anniversary, Options united 50 influential South Fraser women who helped raise over $1.5 million in support of a new affordable housing build in Surrey. Located south of the Fraser River, Options jumped at this opportunity to give back to the community it has proudly served for the past five decades, and so did Prospera Credit Union.

Prospera Credit Union supports affordable housing in Surrey and was very pleased to be part of the Women of Options initiative undertaken by Options Community Services. Prospera donated $50,000 towards the building project and is proud to carry our name on the Library Patio Deck for the next five years.

“Our credit union is committed to fostering vibrant, healthy communities,” says Gavin Toy, President and CEO of Prospera. “Affordable housing is critical to building our local communities, and Prospera is proud to partner with Options as they provide homes for those who need an affordable place to call home.”

The $1.5 million raised through Options will go towards a 100-unit complex at 81st Avenue and King George Boulevard. Of these 100 units, 30 will be market rentals, while the remaining 70 will be well below market rates —designated as affordable housing, with rent starting as low as $375 per month.

The new build will also host community services such as Early Years, mental health outreach, and family services. With occupancy slated for mid-2023, this project expands Options’ capacity to provide community support and to add affordable housing to the City of Surrey.

“As an organization, we have found Prospera absolutely wonderful to work with,” said Options CEO Christine Mohr. “We have built relationships with them over many years and we were thrilled when they elected to support us in our fundraising efforts. It is this kind of support from credit unions and financial partners that makes us proud of working in this community.”
