The Tsawwassen Mills at the Tsawwassen First Nation was noticeably busier this Black Friday than Black Friday of 2020.

Black Friday is underway.

The Retail Council of Canada’s recent Holiday Shopping Survey found that this year Canadians are likely to spend more than in 2020.

According to the survey, last year Canadians planned to spend $693, but in 2021 they plan to spend $792.

Nearly two-thirds of survey respondents said they faced challenges last year due to items being out of stock, long delivery times and shipping delays, according to the Retail Council of Canada, adding this will motivate them to start shopping earlier this year or to shop in local stores.

More consumers this year are also planning to take advantage of holiday shopping sales than they have previously.

Black Friday is expected to be one of, if not the biggest, shopping days of the year, the survey found.

Products categories Canadians plan to spend the biggest portion of their budget on are clothing, food, toys and personal electronics.

They are also looking forward to shopping more in physical stores and buying from a broader mix of retailers, the survey found.
