Throwback: You could buy a Datsun in Delta

The Datsun brand was only used for lower cost vehicles, while the Nissan name applied to more prestigious models

Let’s head back again to 1972 when Delta still had car dealerships.

This November ad from that year in the pages of the Optimist shows Delta Datsun president Lorne Hope (centre left) and vice-president Ken Paleck see the dealership be named recipients of the Service Excellence Award presented by Nissan Automobile Co. (Canada) Ltd.

Also in the photo are Herb Koyanai, district service manager (left) and district parts manager Don Stephen.

The dealership was located at 1140-56 St. in Tsawwassen.

Hope was president of the Tsawwassen Business Association at the time and for a time was a city alderman.
