Dilemma: The upstairs main bathroom in this home is currently not functioning for this family.

The homeowners require a larger shower as this is only shower on the upper floor and is heavily used.

The size of the vanity works for the family and offers sufficient storage. There is a tall linen tower tucked behind the door which isn't being used as there is storage in the vanity and other areas of the house.

The tub is a standard size, and the homeowners would like to see a larger one if possible although this is not a high priority. The bathroom seems dark with the wood panelling on the walls.

The husband wants rain shower, wife is concerned about cleaning the shower and needs a head that is more flexible.

Concept: As this is the bathroom that is used for morning showers, it is a priority to create an inviting, bright, and warm space.

Removing the wood panels and replacing with a light paint color or wallpaper throughout will allow light to reflect off of surfaces more easily.

Heated floor tiles set on a timer so that each morning, the homeowners walk into a warm bathroom floor. Use light tiles for shower, and a dark vanity for contrast and statement. Bright new sconces on either side of a recessed medicine cabinet will provide better light for grooming. The bathroom will be outfitted in classic materials and fixtures to fit in with the rest of the home.

Solution: Removing the linen tower and sliding the vanity over will allow more space for the new larger shower.

The toilet will remain in the same location as there is no great need to relocate it and maintain the same position will simplify the plumbing required and allow the clients to allocate their budget to area of more importance to them. The boxed out space the homeowners thought would allow for a larger tub was determined to have venting from the furnace below and therefore was not able to be captured. Changing the swing of the door will allow for better access with the layout bathroom.

A furniture style vanity and matching recessed medicine cabinet will provide adequate storage. Creating a new 3' x 4' tiled shower with a rain head and adjustable hand shower will please both the husband and wife.

The toilet will be replaced and the existing tub will remain.
