The Boundary Bay Bluebacks are gearing up for another summer swim season.

The local club has been active in the South Delta community for over 50 years and continues to be a popular summer activity for many local families.

The Bluebacks offer programs in competitive and non-competitive swimming, along with developmental at the grassroots level. Swimmers are encouraged to reach their personal goals and full potential in a safe and enjoyable environment. For some, this means swimming one length of the pool unaided and for others, bringing home provincial championship medals.

Former Bluebacks have gone on to university varsity swim teams and some to the Canadian Olympic Time Trials.

The club season runs from May 1 until mid-August. Swimmers train out of the Winskill Aquatic Centre in Tsawwassen, with some June practices held at the Ladner Outdoor Pool. Swim meets take place most weekends in June and July, and swimmers may enter in as many meets as they like, although competition is optional.

Swimmers also have the opportunity to participate in fun, team building activities. For example, the Superhero Swim is a club fundraiser for B.C.

Children's Hospital. Last summer the club raised over $700.

Registration for this summer season is next Saturday, March 9 from 3-5 p.m. at the Winskill pool. For more information, visit the club website - www.boundarybaybluebacks.com.
