Boundary Bay Bluebacks host annual invitational

The Boundary Bay Bluebacks entered over 80 swimmers as the club hosted its annual invitational meet last weekend at Winskill Aquatic and Fitness Centre.

The Boundary Bay Bluebacks entered over 80 swimmers as the club hosted its annual invitational meet last weekend at Winskill Aquatic and Fitness Centre.

Several Bluebacks, who had the opportunity to enter up to seven events each, put in notable performances during the two-day meet.

Olivia Barbar captured first place in three individual events: 100-metre free, 50-metre breast and the 50metre free. Jeanelle Thomas came first in the 50-metre fly, while Aaron Thomson placed first in the 100metre free, the 50-metre free and the 50-metre fly.

The Division 2 boys relay team placed first in the 200-metre medley and the 200-metre freestyle relays.

The team included Jaxon Schofield, Max Redman, Aaron Thomson and Noah Enns.

The Division 1 girls relay team of Kira Denney, Isabel Rapier, Sadie Goulding and Olivia Barbar took first place in the 200-metre freestyle relay.

The club began practices in May and since then has been swimming up a storm. The team started out the season at the Richmond Kigoos Icebreaker Meet in Steveston and the younger swimmers have also attended the North Delta Sunfish Developmental Meet.

The team's next meet is this weekend hosted by the Ladner Stingrays at Watermania.
