Delta Special Olympics win big at National Games

Athletes bring back five medals

Delta athletes stepped up to the spotlight at the Special Olympics Canada Winter Games in Calgary.

Demonstrating determination and dedication to their sports, they brought home five medals:

Corey Duhaime, alpine skiing: advanced giant slalom – gold, advanced super G – gold and advanced slalom – silver; Tyler Coe, five-pin bowling – gold; Kimberley Davies – team curling (Burnaby Wildcats) – gold.

Chelsea Kaake playing for the Burnaby Wolves in curling earned a fourth-place finish.

Darrin Greenstein and Kerry Lamb competed in five–pin bowling, while curling coaches Tony Maniezzo and Mark Smith were also in attendance.

From Feb. 27 to March 2, 141 athletes, 50 coaches, and 14 mission staff from 31 communities across the province showcased their amazing abilities and formed lasting friendships on the national stage.

“I had a great time with my teammates on Team BC and I’m pleased to have done as well as I did. I hope to be named to Team Canada 2025 in Italy next year,” said Duhaime.

For B.C. athletes, the 2024 National Games are the qualifier for the 2025 Special Olympics World Winter Games, which will be hosted in Torino, Italy.
