Delta teams take aim at Provincial Cup berths on home turf

Sudden-death games are for final Coastal berths into this summer's championships

After a heartbreaking Coasta Cup semi-final loss in penalty kicks U17 Delta Coastal Selects will take aim at a Provincial Cup berth on Sunday at Holly Park in Ladner.

A trio of Delta Coastal Selects (DSC) girls teams will be looking to advance to this summer’s Provincial “A” Cup Championships with sudden-death playoff games on Sunday at Ladner’s Holly Park turf fieldDugald Morrison Park.

The U13, U14 and U17 squads are attempting to secure the third and final Coastal berths into the provincials, slated for early July at the South Surrey Athletic Park. They will enjoy home field advantage in matches that feature the semi-final losers from the Coastal Cup Championships that also culminate this weekend.

The action gets under at 9 a.m. with U13 DCS taking on New West Athletica. Delta is coming off a 2-1 semi-final loss in penalty kicks to Port Coquitlam.

At 11:30 a.m. U17 DCS will take on the Burnaby Storm. The locals were denied a cup final berth in heartbreaking fashion, losing 3-2 in penalty kicks to Port Coquitlam.

The tripleheader concludes at 2 p.m. with the U14 Selects taking on the Burnaby Blaze. The hosts came ever-so-close to advancing to the cup final two weeks earlier, falling in penalty kicks to the North Shore Renegades after the teams battled to a 3-3 draw in regulation.

The Provincial “A” Cup Championships will take play June 30 to July 3.
