Winskill Dolphins coach Amy Canuel was among the winners at the recent British Columbia Swim Coaches' Association awards banquet in Vancouver.

Amongst the Olympic swimmers and coaches being honoured, Canuel was named 12 and Under Coach of the Year for 2012. She was recognized among the 300 coaches, representing 50 swim clubs across the province. Awards were also given in three other age categories - 10 and under, 14 and under and 17 and under.

Last season, Canuel's swimmers won 14 individual gold medals at Provincial Championships, broke two B.C. age-group records and represented Canada at the North American Challenge Cup. She was all smiles and humility after receiving her first BCSCA coaching award.

"It's a testament my swimmers, really," she said. "They have many great seasons of swimming ahead of them. And it's a thrill to receive this award in the company of our B.C. Olympians."

Incredibly, one third of Canada's entire Olympic swimming team hailed from British Columbia. All three of Canada's medals from the London Games (two bronze and one Silver) in swimming came from B.C. athletes.
