Ducheck helps Phantom repeat as B.C. champs

Delaney Ducheck is ending her season on the biggest stage in the country for girls midget hockey.

The 17-year-old forward from Tsawwassen will be playing for the Fraser Valley Phantom when it represents B.C. at the 2013 Esso Cup Midget Girls National Championships, slated get underway on Sunday at Bill Copeland Arena in Burnaby.

The Phantom secured its spot at nationals by repeating as B.C. Midget "AAA" girls champions with a two game sweep of the Okanagan Rockets in the best-of-three final.

Valley needed overtime to take the series opener as Brianna Keats deflected home Jodi Gentile's point shot for a 2-1 victory.

The Phantom came out flying in the first period of game two, with goals coming from Hailey Smyl, Danika Carter and Chelsea Wilson en route to a 5-1 victory.

The girls opened the playoffs with a semi-final sweep of the Pacific Ravens.

Ducheck finished the regular season with 16 points, including seven goals, as the Phantom produced a league best 21-5-2 record.
