Tsawwassen was well represented by three local athletes who also picked up some medals at the recent U16 National Field Hockey Championships held in Surrey.

Vanessa Pearson and goaltender Annika Taylor were on the B.C. Blue team which came second in pool play and came up against Ontario in the final.

B.C. opened the scoring from a penalty corner but Ontario came back to tie it up in the second half. The game went into overtime but was still tied at 1-1 at full time. A very exciting shoot-out followed with B.C. going on to win and take the gold medal.

Josh Kitagawa was a member of the B.C. Blue boys team which finished first in pool play and came up against a strong Ontario side in the final. B.C. was awarded the silver medal after a 2-0 loss in a wellcontested match.

Even though most of their summer was spent training at a fairly intense level for this national event, all three players maintain that it was a fantastic experience to represent their province and even better to come away with a medal.

Pearson, Taylor and Kitagawa have come through the Falcons Field Hockey Club program and play in the Ladies/Men Fall League, as well as the Junior Spring league.
