Ice Hawks soar to fifth straight win

The Delta Ice Hawks won their fifth straight to start the season with a 3-0 win over Mission at the Ladner Leisure Centre Tuesday night.

The Delta Ice Hawks are off to a flying start in the first few weeks of their Pacific Junior Hockey League season.

Delta picked up its fifth straight win of the season with a 3-0 win over the Mission Outlaws at the Ladner Leisure Centre.

The Ice Hawks scored single goals in all three periods with Austin Kofler and Jack Ferguson tallying their first goals of 2023 while Carson Merriman scored in the third for his team-leading seventh goal of the season.

Merriman leads the team in scoring with 10 points so far followed by Colin Jang with three goals and five assists and Michael Romeo with two goals and five assists.

Zach Shaughnessy picked up hi fourth win of the season and his first shutout with a 21-save performance.

Back-up Jacob Zillich earned a shutout and his first win of the season in a 5-0 win over North Delta at Sungod Arena.

Other wins so far this month have come against Grandview (5-4) and two wins over Port Moody (6-3 and 4-2).

Delta will try to keep its winning ways going as they hit the road tonight (Friday) for a game against Port Coquitlam.

The Ice Hawks next home game is Tuesday night, Sept. 26 when they entertain the Richmond Sockeyes. Game time is 7:35 p.m. at the Ladner Leisure Centre.
